Doing a Jock's Laundry

People can say anything they want to about homeschooled children, but let me tell you something: we sure are trained and cultivated by our parents! I am SO thankful for every time:

...my dad made me clean my room when I thought it was spotless, because now I make sure my dorm room is organized and tidy so that I can find everything when I need it.

...both of my parents taught me the value of studying. I know what I'm doing now.

...my mom taught me how to coexist. My whole floor comments on how well my roommate and I get along.

...my mom taught me how to COOK. Good lord, some of these chicas don't even know how to cook Ramen noodles!

However, I am most thankful for EVERY TIME my mom would make me sort, wash, and iron my own laundry. The other day I did two loads, and whist waiting for my laundry I noticed these 5 girls who had taken no less than 2 HOURS to finish their laundry. What's worse? I think they spent over $50 doing it! (Yes, we have to pay 1.25 for our laundry, but the loads are 72 minutes long, which is plenty of time to sanitize some soiled clothes.) I helped them out by letting them know that bras DO NOT go in the dryer (you should've seen their awe-stricken faces), and that fabric softener does not go where the bleach belongs in the machine.

Helping them was entertaining; helping the GUYS..now that's HILARIOUS!!! From sorting, to fabric softener, to fabric sheets, to SORTING, to the temperature of the water, to how MUCH goes into a machine...you name it, they had NO clue. LORD. This one guy just had me do it for him. He had black clothes with white clothes and was about to put the SUPER HOT wash on. wow. I also let him know that fabric sheets DO NOT go in the washer (His face was soooo funny. I fought for a straight face. It was a combination of confusion and...confusion.), and that no matter how hard he tried, he could NOT fit 3 WASHERS of LAUNDRY into ONE DRYER....He got competitive with me and attempted to prove me wrong. I left, but i can promise you that he is STILL waiting for his clothing to dry.
