How is everyone doing? I do pray all is well!
School has gone by like a whirlwind, and I am sooo ready for this semester to be over. As my duties for the African Student Union come to a close (two speakers in two days, Karibu festival, african food festival=DONE), I am readying for coordinating Falcon Friday (as I did last year), an art show, and the International Day closing ceremony.
School is challenging, but bearable. I am enjoying the courses I am taking. This week I finished a 25hr project for Accounting classes (had to compare the financial statements of two companies, formulate 12 ratios for each based on their numbers, and then create statements, charts, etc. of my own.), had to prepare the final project for my Marketing class (Nordstrom's retailing mix), and take a test in Economics (This subject is actually growing on me!). French is going soooo well! I am LOVING it! my History of Christianty professor is foolish. He has no neck, his voice is a cross between piglet and pooh, and he wears multicolored crochet belts, muscles chirts two sizes too small for him (with a professor coat on top) as we discuss the concepts of "filthy intercourse" in the olden days of Christianity. Yeah.....
I am also working as a researcher for the chief of diversity affairs (Who is also a good friend of mine, so I am so pleased to work with him on a daily basis!) looking up diversity strategic plans, creating file folders for his work, and meeting with him daily on my paper for the Humanities Symposium in February. My topic is "Christian Service, Friendship, and the Third World". You'll have to come up here to hear me lecture on it, because I don't feel like explaining!
Let me explain ONE THING though... I am appreciating HBCUs more and more this year. Now that every FINE black man has left my school and there is an official drought in the land, it is worth mentioning that HBCUs serve the purpose of supplying endless educated, FINE, goal-oriented black men to black women. Which is why I am so pleased to be going to Temple University next semester (Not an HBCU, but there is a feasible presence) as a "study abroad"
...only my school, lol! Hopefully I will have an RA position there! Already have my courses chosen!
And please pray Ii learn to have "fun". I haven't had much time (to have it or learn the definition, because of my busy life here at school. My foolish RA with his "Peace and Conflict Studies" major wants me to chill every ten seconds, and I must kindly remind him that I have a real major which demands work (and don't say I am being mean! He wants to walk the earth barefooted, grow his hair out, and "live like Jesus", while feeding the poor, and solving world peace "here at home".). Still I need to do things for the sake of...nothing...
The mention of my RA brings me to notes about living in a communal house. Wow.
o if i leave my door unlocked, other members of the house help themselves to using my bathroom
o noise is not a problem, but if something is going on, someone will be in my room to tell me about it
o so every sunday we have potlucks with our RD, who also teaches an urban studies class. Potluck's here are NOT the same as potlucks I am used to. The usual menu:
§ from those who cant cook: rice, or casseroles cooked whilst:
§ their mother was on the other line and they were in tears because "the water
just wont boil!"
§ the smoke alarm nearly goes off
§ they take photos of every stage the food is in, and then send it to their
mom's cell so the mom can tell them "if it's done"
§ from those who have studied abroad: instant CURRY [!] rice
§ from the vegans who care about animals and sustainability: steamed veggies
§ from the sustainability-crazy students: milk from amish people [!], lentils
grown in the back alley, and served on recycled plates
§ from my RA who wants to "live like Jesus": doughnuts from his last dumpster-
diving adventure (don't ask, PLEASE!)
my point: ALWAYS SAY GRACE!
I have to do some reading now!

PS: Nov. 19. I am showing some photos alongside two ceramicists in an exhibit (yes, as in for real) entitled "Form and Femininity" (And you thought that subject line was just me being creative, huh?!). That friday, 7-10pm. Kinda big deal. Meh. Come if you want.
